I'm okay / I'm not okay
The two images together portray the internal struggles vs outside façade we put on to mask them.
I usually prefer to shoot with people. Just before the UK went into lockdown, I had been planning a shoot with a model but chose not to go ahead as I thought it was wrong that the UK wasn’t practising social distancing and lockdown (at the time) and I didn’t want to contribute to making someone sick, or bringing it back to my flat and making my housemates sick. So, I had to think of other ways to continue shooting and decided to experiment with using flowers as my subject.
I shot these images on the first weekend of lockdown in the UK but left it a few weeks before coming back to them to edit, and I’m glad I did! During that time Dominic Morris and Alecks Ayling had their online exhibitions on Shiver and seeing their work and reading about their processes and inspirations inspired me to play more with distorting images on photoshop!
